Dental visits do NOT have to be a scary or tearful experiences. Children are clean slates and their first dental visit MUST be a good one as it will set the tone for their future visits and attitude towards the dentist and dentistry.
1. Please do not bring your child only once they have pain. Their first visit should be from ages 4 or 5 depending on your child and their maturity.
2. Please do NOT threaten your child with the dentist or a dental injection – it makes your dentist’s job VERY difficult!
3. Prepare your child – There are numerous social media portals to help you prepare your child for their first visit. Cartoon characters simulate dental visits and being a dentist into a game which makes it a fun experience. The better prepared and informed your child is before their first visit, the more comfortable they will be.
4. Keep it sweet and short – depending on your child’s age and the presence of anxiety – only expect a dental check and cleaning at the first visit UNLESS they have pain. By gently introducing your child into the dental environment will help create a comfortable and safe environment resulting in a happy and co-operative little patient.
